Amcor said its new 24oz round widemouth pet jar is a &ldquolightweight replacement for glass for pasta sauces, apple sauce, salsas, jams and jellies, and other food products filled at temperatures up to 205 f&rdquo. &ldquoamcor has taken wide mouth, hot fill containers to a new level by combining our round wall design and novel blowtrim technology to create a glasslike pet container that has all the desirable consumer advantages,&rdquo according to amcor principal engineer ron mcfarlane.
Pwm technology according to the company, amcor&rsquos performance widemouth pwm technology delivers a unique panelless design. The bottle&rsquos four horizontal ribs and its stiff walls resist the vacuum as the product cools, therefore maintaining bottle shape, according to mcfarlane. The round 63 mm jar weighs just 51 grams and mimics the appearance of glass. Mcfarlane also said that another key feature is amcor&rsquos patented blowtrim technology &ldquowhich ensures consistent finish dimensions, optimum closure performance, and sealing integrity.
The enhanced blowtrim process gives wide mouth jars a flatter, smoother, and wider surface that maintains good fit and seal integrity&rdquo. Amcor expects pasta sauce to be the first hot fill application to hit store shelves later this year.
