in the field of pharmaceutical packaging, hologram technology can be used to protect blister packs and also for the folding carton and instruction leaflet. the entire blister foil is manufactured as a hologram with a customerspecific design. the same design can be integrated into a hologram strip of, say, 10 mm width, which can be applied to the carton and packaging insert. this means that in principle, packaging can be enhanced to offer the same level of security as a bank note. the advantage for the end consumer is that the design can be easily recognized on three packaging components that all go together. even an inexperienced purchaser can check the package to ensure with absolute certainty that it is the genuine article. this eliminates the possibility of imprints being forged. needless to say, such holograms also incorporate secret security features that can only be checked using special reading devices.
