Ardagh Glass Packaging Partners with Hernö Gin to Produce Sustainable Lightweight Bottles
Ardagh Glass Packaging-Europe (AGP-Europe), a division of Ardagh Group, has collaborated with premium gin brand Hernö Gin to create a new lightweight 500ml glass bottle, marking a significant step in sustainability and innovation. The new bottle, which features an upgraded graphic profile, is the first bespoke bottle designed specifically for Hernö Gin and was produced and decorated at AGP-Europe's Limmared facility in Sweden.
The updated bottle design prominently displays the Hernö copper still, along with the engraving "Hernö Gin Distillery Home of Swedish Gin" on the bottle’s shoulder. Weighing just 480g, the new bottle represents a 100g reduction from its predecessor. This lighter design, coupled with a higher content of recycled cullet, has resulted in a 31% reduction in carbon emissions per bottle.
Emma Edfors, CEO of Hernö Gin, shared her excitement about the new design: "After extensive design and development, we are thrilled to unveil our visually upgraded bottle, which is also a major investment in sustainability. By moving production to Ardagh in Sweden, we are reducing transportation emissions, further minimizing our climate footprint. For us, glass was the natural choice, and we believe this is an important step in our commitment to sustainable practices."
Magnus Ridefjord, Sales Manager at AGP-Sweden, also expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration: "These new bottles were produced using our multi-production line at AGP-Limmared, which offers the flexibility to produce different shapes and sizes. The advanced technology developed by our sister company, Heye International, is perfect for producing specialty bottles for the premium drinks sector, such as those for Hernö Gin."
The first bottles produced in this new design will feature the brand's top sellers, including Hernö Dry Gin, Hernö Old Tom Gin, and Hernö Botanical Gin, further solidifying the partnership between Hernö Gin and Ardagh Glass Packaging as they continue to work towards a more sustainable future for the premium drinks industry.
