Nestlé Nigeria has introduced a newly packaged version of its iconic breakfast cereal, Golden Morn, emphasizing the brand's ongoing commitment to nutrition and environmental responsibility. The updated packaging reflects Golden Morn’s 38-year legacy of nourishing Nigerian families, while also aligning with Nestlé’s broader sustainability goals.
The new packaging, made from 100% recyclable laminate, is part of Nestlé’s global vision to ensure that more than 95% of its plastic packaging is recyclable by 2025. This shift away from the previous aluminum foil packaging to more easily recyclable materials underscores Nestlé's efforts to minimize environmental impact and promote a circular economy.
Wassim Elhusseini, Managing Director of Nestlé Nigeria, highlighted the company's dual responsibility of delivering nutritious products and safeguarding the planet for future generations. "Today, over 80% of all Nestlé’s packaging in Nigeria is optimized for recycling. We are proud that Golden Morn’s packaging has been upgraded to a designed-for-recycling laminate," Elhusseini stated at a press conference attended by journalists from various media outlets.
Golden Morn, developed in Nigeria and made from locally sourced maize and soya, has been a staple in Nigerian households for nearly four decades. The cereal is enriched with essential vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A, B1, B5, C, and iron. The introduction of the new recyclable packaging further solidifies Golden Morn’s dedication to both nutrition and sustainability.
Mr. Omofasa Orhiunu, Category Manager for Dairy, described Golden Morn as a brand driven by purpose. "Golden Morn is more than just a breakfast cereal; it’s a brand dedicated to nourishing families across Nigeria while protecting the planet for the next generation," Orhiunu said. He reassured consumers that the new packaging would maintain the same great taste and nutritional value that Nigerians have trusted for years.
In addition to its focus on sustainability, Golden Morn continues to support local communities by sourcing 100% of its maize and soya from Nigerian farmers. This approach not only ensures the freshness and quality of the ingredients but also bolsters the local economy and empowers farming communities across the country.
The new packaging features a contemporary design with vibrant colors and updated graphics, highlighting Golden Morn’s key ingredients and health benefits. Journalists at the launch event were given a detailed presentation on the new packaging and its design process, as well as a tasting session to experience the familiar taste of Golden Morn in its environmentally friendly new packaging.
This repackaging effort is part of Nestlé’s broader strategy to continuously adapt its products to meet evolving consumer preferences and market trends. By enhancing both the visual appeal and the environmental impact of its packaging, Nestlé Nigeria reaffirms its commitment to innovation and sustainability.
Golden Morn, made with whole grains and fortified with essential vitamins and minerals, remains a nutritious and energizing way to start the day for families across Nigeria. The cereal is available in large, family-sized boxes, making it a convenient and cost-effective option for households looking to maintain a healthy and balanced diet.
