As of now, ambrosia desserts products will also be packed into trays and palletized by oystar machines, prior to distribution to the supermarkets. The new, final packaging machinery from oystar af takes the custard filled cups from an upstream oystar hamba filling and sealing machine and places them into the combined lidding and packing machine.
Snapon lids are applied and the completed cups then placed into preformed plastic trays, known as "flimsies". If a tray is not loaded completely, it is automatically rejected and transferred to a removal station. In addition, the packaging system also allows for the handling of other types of cups, for example cups without a snapon lid into a variety of tray formats. Quality assured the flimsy trays can then be packed in either shrink wrap or flow wraps films. To ensure that the product can be subsequently tracked, the products are automatically labelled and inspected for legibility.
Before the trays are fed into the layer plate type palettizer, a final examination using an xray inspection device ensures the highest possible product quality. In addition to the oystar af and oystar hamba machines, premier foods also plans to make further use of an existing aseptic filling machine from oystar gasti, which is currently used for the production of the ambrosia puds.
Based on the positive experience premier foods has enjoyed with all three oystar suppliers, a new contract was awarded to oystar af in april 2012, namely to develop and supply, as a turnkey solution, a complete final packaging line for new products to market in early 2013.
