Just like the existing high-output TX 7 and TX 8 series, the space-saving new arrivals in the product range offer everything that customers could expect from a trend-setting machine generation. These compact traysealers are coming at just the right time in view of the current economic challenges and the associated explosion in costs. “Thanks to their small footprint, they make a major contribution to increasing output in the smallest of spaces - and all this on a very sustainable, flexible and cost-attractive basis,” says Franziska Schreiber, Product Manager at MULTIVAC. The specialist packaging company has now completed its product range in the TX class, which began its success story in 2019 with the fully automatic TX 710.
Performance at the highest level
These new models, which were developed with rapid product change and high cycle output for a wide range of applications, are inspirational in their technical features with intelligent machine and line control, their high standard of hygiene, and of course their usual reliability. They can be easily integrated into a wide range of production environments thanks to their compact construction - and even designed as a two-track solution for still greater efficiency.
Both models are equipped with robust servo drives, which guarantee maximum speed and gentle product handling over the long term. The intelligent machine control and state-of-the-art die concept, the so-called X-tools, ensure that the investment in these models is always future-proof. Particularly since both the TX 610 and TX 620 are designed for use with MULTIVAC Smart Services and MULTIVAC Line Control - both of which are tools for providing maximum transparency and very efficient line operation.
When compared with the existing TX range available in the market, the TX 6 series has been completely redeveloped with the aim of producing a compact and cost-effective solution. “The design language, functionality and areas of application are however based on their bigger brothers, the TX 7 and TX 8 series,” emphasizes Franziska Schreiber. What distinguishes the TX 610 from the TX 620 is essentially the machine length and the usable size of the die.
Sustainability with potential for the future
The compact traysealers have been systematically designed for sustainability: Firstly, their long lifespan is an important factor in this context, and secondly depending on the application, there is no requirement at all for compressed air or cooling water - and this makes an active contribution to saving resources.
The machines can run trays from a wide range of materials very reliably and without any limitations, and these include for example paper- and fibre-based materials as well as plastics. The range of applications extends from "Sealing only" through to Modified Atmosphere Packaging and right up to MultiFresh vacuum skin packs.
Ease of operation with a high level of process reliabilityThe clear operating concept of the TX 6 series provides for logical process sequences, significantly reducing the opportunities for incorrect operation. The intuitive HMI makes controlling the machine much easier, since many pack and process parameters are already configured and can be called up very quickly.
The conversion of the machines to different pack formats without the need for tools also makes a major contribution to efficiency and safety - just like the simple cleaning and maintenance, since all the machine components are easily accessible.

The new TX 620 will be shown for the first time at interpack 2023It will be the core element of a complete line solution on the MULTIVAC main stand (A23) in Hall 5. It will be packing ready meals under modified atmosphere in a sustainable cardboard tray, which is sealed very reliably with a thin recyclable film. The manually pre-filled trays are fed into the traysealer on a MULTIVAC conveyor system. A L 310 labeller is used to apply a top and bottom label very precisely to the MAP packs. A high-performance vision system, also manufactured by MULTIVAC Marking & Inspection, checks the applied labels immediately, so that any faulty packs can be ejected at that point. The good packs then arrive at a MPS 102 pack stacker, which automatically stacks the packs, and this contributes significantly to simplifying and accelerating manual box packing at the end of the line.

A new 8.8 meters wide multi-layer co-extrusion line will produce highly engineered thin gauge label films to support the growing, sustainability driven demand for lower resin content materials. The new technology is unique for label films, with 36,000 tons of annual capacity designed for best-in-class energy efficiency. Production will commence in the second half of 2024.

Many manufacturers struggle with label data and label quality issues. An Ishida multihead weigher has enabled a leading French specialist mushroom and vegetable supplier to optimise the packing of its new pan-fried range, significantly increasing production while reducing product giveaway to deliver an attractive return on investment.
Francep, part of the Gelpass Group, offers a variety of premium vegetable products for the retail and foodservice sectors, with its reputation based in particular on wild mushrooms as well as potatoes and chestnuts. More recently the company has extended its portfolio to include processed products such as pan-fried mushrooms, pan-fried vegetables and cooked mashed potato.
While Francep was already using multihead weighing for its pan-fried vegetables incorporating specialist ingredients, including quinoa, bulgur and semolina, the previous machine was achieving low productivity and an unacceptable amount of giveaway.
The solution from Ishida was a 16-head multihead weigher from its CCW-RVE range which has delivered a 20% increase in productivity together with a 4% reduction in product loss.
The new weigher is part of a €3 million investment at Francep’s factory in Saint-Viance. The company’s selection of the CCW-RVE-216 was based on its very positive experience of Ishida technology on another of its packing lines, including the ease of use of the machine and Ishida’s high levels of service in terms of after-sales support and spare parts supply.
“We were already well aware and totally satisfied with the capabilities of Ishida technology,” explained Francep’s Site Director, Saint-Viance, Jérôme Prévost. “We were therefore confident that the company would find the best solution for our particular requirements.”
The 16-head Ishida RVE model features a set of booster hoppers, fitted directly under the weigh hoppers. This doubles the number of available hoppers, all of which utilise Ishida’s unique triple combination calculation software that can calculate three optimal weight combinations, double check them and then select the one nearest to the target weight - all in a single cycle. Product is discharged into the packs via two three-litre timing hoppers. All contact parts feature a stainless-steel coating with a raised surface that prevents product sticking and keeps it moving through the weigher.
In addition, the weigher’s rugged construction and hygienic design that prevents water ingress help to ensure long-term reliability.
At Francep, the machine is in operation for two daily seven-hour shifts for eight months of the year, and one daily seven-hour shift for the other four. The current 50 weighments per minute is well within its top speed of 100 packs per minute. This gives Francep the potential to further expand production capacity, with the line currently operating at around 80 percent capacity.
“We are highly satisfied with our investment and the Ishida is living up to its promises,” confirmed Jérôme Prévost. “We currently process about 100 tonnes of product per month and are confident we can increase this up to around 140 to 160 tonnes.”

SEA Vision USA is going to attend Interphex tradeshow in New York from April 25 to 27. Everybody knows that the line clearance processes are crucial stages performed before production begins. High-definition print technology of the Velox IDS-PT™ 250 further
expands the digital decoration options for Neopac’s EcoDesign tubes.
Hoffmann Neopac, a global provider of high-quality packaging and dosing applications for pharma, beauty and oral care, has enhanced its tube production capabilities with the addition of a cutting-edge digital printing technology from Velox, a developer and manufacturer of industrial direct-to-shape digital decorators for cylindrical container production.
For Neopac, the infrastructure infusion includes the recently announced innovation in high-definition technology for its Velox IDS-PT™ Series system, allowing for superior digital printing quality spanning a variety of factors: high resolution photorealism, smooth gradients, sharp text or symbols, original fonts, and fine lines. Lantech will be showing state-of-the-art automatic stretch wrappers and carton packaging systems. The machines make packaging processes more efficient and prevent transport damage. Visitors can also look forward to some new developments.
The highlight at the stand is the new RL Automatic ring stretch wrapper. The high-speed machine wraps up to 180 loads per hour with outstanding packaging quality and largely without operator intervention. The Metered Film Delivery feature offers increased wrapping force for maximum stability without squeezing and twisting the load or tearing the film. The Load Seeking Clamp feature protects against film tears by welding the film end to the load. With Wrap Cycle Control, the film stretch can be adjusted during operation via the control panel. The optional extra Automatic Roll Change allows the film rolls to be changed automatically. The RL Automatic stretch wrapper is suitable for load dimensions of up to 1200 mm x 1200 mm x 2700 mm.
A stretch wrapper as a time saver
The QL-400XT semi-automatic stretch wrapper saves two minutes of time on each wrapping cycle with the patented XT Cut & Clamp feature. The film is gripped and cut at the end of the wrapping cycle. The operation is completely mechanical and does not require a separate compressed air supply or power supply. The intelligent Load Guardian control system creates special profiles with the appropriate retention force for frequently occurring loading applications. Users process up to 35 loads per hour with the QL-400XT stretch wrapper, where the film can have a maximum pre-stretch of 300 per cent. Diagonal load sizes up to 1829 1830 mm and wrapping heights up to 2032 2030 mm are wrapped.
Cartons with square angles
The CI-1000 automatic inline carton erector processes up to 25 cases per minute, which are always square and therefore have maximum stability and are optimally suited for the logistics chain. Furthermore, the machine impresses with great flexibility, as it processes many types of cartons and closures. The dimensions of the cartons can range from 200 mm x 150 mm x 150 mm to 500 mm x 325 mm x 520 mm. The carton blanks are completely controlled from the moment they are inserted into the magazine until they are output as a finished formed case with a sealed bottom.
When smaller quantities are required, the C-300 case erector is the right choice. It can produce up to 10 square cases per minute with dimensions of up to 500 mm x 350 mm x 600 mm per minute. Other features of the machine are the ergonomic loading and the extremely controlled processing of the blanks.
Monitoring software for stretch wrappers
Lantech now offers the LINC (Lantech Intelligent Network Connection) software solution that monitors the operation, productivity, quality and cost of L-Series automatic stretch wrappers. The new online tool analyses key performance indicators and draws attention to inactive machines as well as incorrect winding profile settings. Employees can view the data in real time via the internet. The bottom line is higher availability, less film consumption and improved load quality.

When it comes to the marketing of fruit and vegetables, plastic-free and recyclable packs are very much on trend. In addition to full wrap labelling, which has already become established in the market, MULTIVAC offers two other high-quality and sustainable packaging solutions for fresh produce trays: Whereas Top Wrap involves applying a label to the top and both sides of the tray, Top Close seals the tray closed just with a label from above. Both concepts are the ideal choice for fresh products, which do not have to be packed under modified atmosphere or airtight in a vacuum. This means that a label can be used to simply seal the tray closed and label it at the same time in one resource-saving operation - and it also meets the rising demand in this sector for sustainability.
Both labelling solutions provide a strong purchasing incentive thanks to their attractive label and recyclable pack. The self-adhesive labels on a backing material not only offer a large area for customer information and marketing purposes, they also open up a wide range of possibilities for product presentation in terms of material thickness and label shape. It is possible for example to have cut-outs in the label, as well as adhesive-free zones, so that contact with the product is prevented. Perforations serve as opening aids and make the handling of the packs easy for the consumer.
Depending on the type of tray and its content, as well as the packaging materials used, a wide variety of solutions are on offer with MULTIVAC conveyor belt labellers, which support sustainable and recyclable pack-aging concepts. Common to all these solutions is that the trays are au-tomatically labelled on the run, and they are either fed in manually or transferred automatically from an upstream module. European tube market continues to grow
The European tube market remained robust in 2022. The European tube manufacturers association (etma) reports a growth in tube deliveries of just under 2 per cent to a total volume of a good 11.8 billion units.
The most important end-user markets developed very differently. While shipments to the volume-dominant pharmaceutical, dental care and cosmetics markets grew by around 13 per cent, 2 per cent and 1 per cent respectively in 2022, demand from the food and household sectors declined by 7 per cent and 14 per cent respectively.
"The long-standing globalisation trend in procurement has given way to increasing regionalisation. etma members are seeing many customers focus on European sourcing because security of supply and a certain geographic proximity are playing an increasingly important role following supply chain issues in recent years. European tube suppliers will benefit from this trend," knows etma President Mark Aegler.
Sustainability still high on the agenda
Due to the draft of a new European regulation for packaging and packaging waste presented by the EU Commission, which among other things formulates stricter requirements for the recyclability and design for recycling of packaging, the packaging industry will have to deliver innovations.
The European tube industry has been working successfully for years on even more sustainable packaging solutions that bring improvements through less material use, less complex packaging structures and optimal recyclability. These measures lead to more resource efficiency and a reduction of the product carbon footprint. The draft legislation presented by the EU Commission and the quotas it contains for the use of recycled material in plastic packaging will also pose major challenges with regard to the availability of high-quality post-consumer recycled plastics.
Satisfactory outlook for the first half of 2023
"On a positive note, European tube manufacturers are feeling a slight easing in energy, raw material and freight prices. However, the situation regarding labour costs and labour availability has noticeably worsened. In the fierce competition for qualified employees, tube manufacturers are called upon to sharpen their profile as attractive and flexible employers with a meaningful sustainability strategy," underlines Aegler.
Persistent inflation may be limiting consumers' purchasing power, but the tube is extremely popular with consumers as a practical, lightweight and easy-to-use package. It has also proven to be an anchor of stability in the FMCG world during the past years of crisis.
"Despite still challenging political and economic conditions, the industry's outlook for the first half of 2023 is good due to the solid order intake situation. Overall, the industry is looking ahead to the coming months with a good dose of optimism," Aegler sums up.
