sustainability is the key theme in pp b...
A new report and database from AMI Consulting published in March 2022 quantify and analyse the European PP market and examine the most recent industry dynamics.
Rhian O’Connor, Senior Consultant and Katrina Purser, Senior Research Analyst are the authors of the 2022 editions of AMI’s Polypropylene Markets Europe report and Polypropylene Processors Europe database which are the result of an extensive research programme, providing a detailed independent assessment of this industry. The report revises and updates the size and growth of demand for different applications and countries with Europe as well as looking at the key themes and supply picture. The database gives a detailed list of buyers and divides demand by application and country.
The key theme for the last two years has been Covid-19 with some positive impacts on sectors like hygiene and packaging and some negative impacts on sectors including automotive. In 2021, the total volume of PP (including compounds but excluding recyclate) in the European market was 10 million.
AMI believe the key theme of the next five years to be sustainability. Single use plastics legislation could impact the rigid and flexible packaging markets, with consumers looking to turn away from plastic packaging. However, there are limited alternatives, and we believe legislation will instead look to simplification/redesign of packaging – using monomaterials and increasing recyclability.
Recyclate should continue to take share, but we believe the impact will be relatively limited on PP over the next five years – effectively depressing demand only 0.7%pa. The main reason for this low impact – much less than industry anticipate is availability of recyclate. Most consumers interviewed were working to have the technical knowledge to put recyclate in their product. Everything from fibres, compounds to food-grade packaging. The database gives a detailed overview of buyers of PP recyclate.
The market is more uncertain now, than at any other edition of this report. Challenges include the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, new standards on single use plastics and sustainability, polymer shortages, logistics challenges and changes to retail channels. Finally, the war in Ukraine is adding further complications to logistics and cost pressure.
As a result, we believe it is even more crucial to look at individual markets – whether geographical, by application, technology, or grade – to monitor the growth of the European polypropylene market. The report and its expert analysis, as well as the database

London start-up tyme food refreshes its ...
- Mondi’s new BCoolBox keeps meals chilled to 7°C or below without refrigeration, allowing TYME Food to ship all across the UK from one central kitchen
- Corrugated mono-material construction makes recycling BCoolBoxes a breeze, meeting TYME Food’s ambitious sustainability goals
When TymeFood needed higher-performance, more sustainable packaging for extending its reach out of London, it turned to Mondi, a global leader in packaging and paper. The solution, BCoolBox, is now keeping TYME Food’s weekday meals fresh as it delivers them to all corners of the UK.
The London start-up had a stunning local launch with its nutritious, plant-based, high-quality offerings, with a brand image appealing to environmentally-conscious consumers seeking to reconcile busy lifestyles with healthy eating. But repeating this success nationally required better packaging – more robust, thermally insulated, and easily recyclable. The solution also needed to be scalable to keep up with fast projected sales growth.
TYME Food tested several multi-material options before turning to us. After analysing the conundrum with our customer-centric EcoSolutions approach, we proposed a trial of our new BCoolBox packaging system optimised for TYME Food’s needs. BCoolBox’s tough, lightweight corrugated sides and insulation panels keep contents well protected at under 7°C for a minimum of 24 hours during standard shipment. Its all-corrugated, mono-material construction simplifies the supply chain. It’s been great to be able to prove the effectiveness of this product.
BCoolBox can be thrown into the paper sorting bin, unlike multi-material packaging where the UK does not have the necessary recycling infrastructure. With their core commitment to sustainability, this was a particular concern for TYME Food’s management. “We were looking for an insulation material that would maximise the possibility of it actually being recycled. Mondi’s perforated panel concept is very smart. Paper is a material that customers know how to recycle in the conventional infrastructure in the UK rather than requiring novel education or conditions to do so. So we invited Mondi to test their product for us.” said Joe Cooke, Creative Director, at TYME Food.
The trial, conducted in various conditions with sensors implanted in the BCoolBoxes, proved successful: meals arrived undamaged and unspoiled - and, of course, cool, their contents never exceeding the critical 7° limit. Shipping weight charges were also reduced due to the compact and lightweight composition of the packaging. BCoolBox was clearly ready to serve its first volume customer.
Joe Cooke continued: “The sampling and trial process was very fast and the ability to test with sensors in our different supply chains was critical. Mondi’s contribution to testing a proof of concept using solid data was amazing. The data, and the fact that Mondi had set up it’s concept clearly for mass production - allowing us to quickly scale as we grow - supported our decision for BCoolBox. They also offered flexibility to meet our requirements with printing and packing, giving us both brand and operational value. Key factors of a good design. Mondi certainly allowed us to open our service to the whole of the UK. Consumers so far are happy with their experience and the freshness of our meals when they arrive. Relationship-building with Mondi and their attention to detail has been terrific; we still have ideas how to further optimise, and Mondi is already at work here for us.”

Energy and raw material surcharge on nyl...
During the past weeks and months, extraordinary events on a global scale has continued to put pressure on supply chains. This is resulting in continued shortages and significantly increased prices for raw materials and utilities. XSYS is subject to price increases in raw materials with double-digit impact YoY 2021 vs. 2022, as well as increases in electricity and gas with prices in March 2022 being more than six times as high as in January 2021.
XSYS planned for the level of inflation based on Q4 2021 levels. Indeed, XSYS has communicated inflation rises throughout 2021 and announced various pricing measures. Already in the first quarter of 2022, XSYS is subject to substantial additional inflation across energy, raw materials, packaging and both international and local transportation. The pricing actions already announced have recouped a fraction of the inflation that was ultimately absorbed and continues to increase on an almost daily basis.
Friedrich von Rechteren, Global Commercial VP at XSYS, says: “We can absorb some initial inflationary developments by smart hedging, long-term contracts with our suppliers, and continuous operational improvements. It is no secret that supply chains are under pressure, driving the market in the direction of relying on spot rates in order to secure supply.”
Due to these extraordinary inflation levels, XSYS is now left with no other option than to implement a temporary global surcharge of 6% for nyloflex® and 4% for nyloprint® products. The surcharge recoups a portion of the immensely high utility, raw material, transportation and packaging costs. The surcharge will apply to all orders with a shipment date on and after April 15th 2022.
“We understand that this price increase is adding pressure to the business of our customers during these difficult circumstances, and it has not been an easy choice for us to make. However, to ensure consistent and reliable supply to our customers, we see no other way than passing on some of these costs”, concludes von Rechteren.
ABOUT XSYS
XSYS has been designed to bring more brilliance into the packaging industry – into the lives of its customers and colleagues – using brilliant products and services for brilliant print results and business success. It combines under one umbrella such well-known flexographic and letterpress brands as nyloflex®, Xpress, nyloprint®, nylosolv®, rotec®, FlexoExpert, ThermoFlexX, Catena, TFxX and Woodpecker, to provide a complete flexographic and letterpress prepress solution.

Flow pack solutions by südpack at anuga...
In many European countries, resealable flow packs have been a preferred packaging concept for sliced meat, sausage and cheese products for many years. In Germany as well, the relevance of flow packs is steadily growing in many fields of application. This includes the packaging of salad, baked goods, cereal, snacks, sausages, frozen fish and shellfish – and most recently, even ground meat. Consumers respond positively to the material-efficient and lightweight bags, which is why many manufacturers and packers are considering this packaging concept more and more as an alternative.
And for this packaging system as well, the demand for recyclable alternatives is also on the rise. It is particularly concepts based on polymers that are classified as recyclable and can be returned to existing material streams that are now receiving an increasing amount of attention.
A powerful film portfolio “on the cutting edge”
The solution provider of choice and the first point of contact when it comes to high-performance films for the food industry is SÜDPACK. The leading film manufacturer already offers an extensive range of high-performance structures that are individually designed to meet the requirements of the product to be packaged as well as the packaging technology in use. The best example is the innovative product family Pure-Line, which in addition to recyclable mono-materials based on PP, now also includes solutions made of PE. Depending on the products to be packaged, the high-performance films can be equipped with different barrier properties in order to provide optimal product protection. Despite their reduced material thickness, flow packs based on Pure-Line films provide a high level of stability that is comparable to conventional packaging systems.
The Pure-Line films have been tested on horizontal and vertical flow pack lines from the leading manufacturers of packaging machines. They have also been specifically designed for high output rates and maximum material yield. Moreover, the films are distinguished by a broad sealing range, which results in a high level of process and packaging safety. At the same time, the formation of a sealing layer ensures the simple and efficient in-line application of common zipper systems.
SPQ significantly reduces the carbon footprint of printed flow pack solutions
For added sustainability for printed flow packs, the pioneering SPQ printing technology by SÜDPACK is an intelligent option. Already honored with the German Packaging Award in gold, the printing process reduces the use of ink and solvents to a minimum and is setting standards in flexo printing with its low carbon footprint.
Highly visible at the leading trade fair of the food industry
SÜDPACK materials will be presented on the flow pack machines of various leading manufacturers at Anuga FoodTec in Cologne. This will give professional visitors the opportunity to see the concept on both packaging lines for fresh ground meat and on lines designed to package dry products. “In this segment, we are expecting an even greater demand in the months ahead than has been the case. This is because the trend towards sustainable packaging concepts, which appeal to consumers with their convenience and also give companies in the food processing industry additional advantages in terms of flexibility, economic efficiency and logistics, will continue,” forecast Holger Hoss, who as Product Manager is responsible for the flow pack solutions at SÜDPACK.

Procter & Gamble India becomes ‘plastic waste neutral’
P&G India is among the first few FMCG companies in India that have achieved 'plastic waste neutrality’ by recycling 100% of post-consumer plastic packaging waste
P&G also announced that it will set up in-house solar plants at its Goa and Mandideep manufacturing sites
National; March 31, 2022: Procter & Gamble India today announced that it has become ‘plastic waste neutral’ in the past year (April 2021 – March 2022). P&G has collected, processed, and recycled over 19,000 MT of post-consumer plastic packaging waste from across the country which is more than the amount of plastic packaging in its products sold in a year. With this announcement, the company is among the first few FMCG companies in India to achieve plastic waste neutrality.
The company is working with recycling partners across 75 cities in India to collect plastic which is then sent to different recyclers, waste to energy plants, and cement kilns. In addition to recycling, the company has also made a deliberate effort to reduce the packaging material and in the last 5 years has reduced usage of packaging material by more than 5,000 MT.
The company made this announcement during its ‘It’s Our Home Sustainability Summit’ held in Mumbai today. During the summit, P&G India also announced that it will set up two more in-house solar plants at its manufacturing sites in Goa and Mandideep in India. This is in addition to the existing in-house solar plant that the company set up at its Hyderabad manufacturing site in 2021. With this, P&G will be among the first few FMCG companies in India to have three in-house solar plants across its manufacturing sites.
Madhusudan Gopalan, CEO, Procter & Gamble – Indian Sub-Continent said, “We are proud of the significant progress we have made on environmental sustainability, and achieving ‘plastic waste neutrality’ is a key milestone in this journey. Plastic waste does not belong in the environment, and we will continue to partner with multiple stakeholders in our efforts to reduce and recycle packaging waste.” He further added, “We are also taking a deliberate approach to reducing the impact of our operations, and setting up in-house solar plants is a step in this direction. We have made strong progress across our brands, our supply chain, our operations with support from our partners and employees. We are fully committed to making a positive impact in the world and creating a sustainable future for generations to come.”
In recent years, the company has made significant progress on environmental sustainability which can be seen across its operations and brands. These include:
- All P&G manufacturing sites in India are ‘zero manufacturing waste to landfill’
- 5 of P&G India sites have already achieved the 2030 P&G global target of 35% water efficiency
- P&G India purchases 100% renewable electricity for all its manufacturing sites in India
- P&G’s fabric care brands in India Ariel and Tide continue to be phosphate-free since 2015, thus helping preserve the quality of water resources
- The liquid detergent bottles of fabric care brand Ariel are recyclable
- P&G is among the few companies in India to also use recycled material in the packaging of its baby care and feminine care products which will reduce the usage of 500 MT of virgin plastic annually
P&G is committed to accelerating action on climate change toward net-zero GHG emissions. P&G has set a new ambition to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its operations and supply chain, from raw material to retailer by 2040.

Weda supplies feeding system for europe'...
Poland: WEDA supplies feeding system for Europe’s largest insect breeding facility Fly larvae as an efficient source of protein for the animal feed of the future
WEDA Dammann & Westerkamp GmbH supplies the complete insect feeding system for the Polish feed producer HiProMine. The company from Robakowo near Poznan breeds insect-based proteins on an industrial scale using the black soldier fly. With WEDA’s new plant, 550 tonnes of substrate are produced and fed there every day. The technology creates a food chain in which the insect forms a bridge between plant waste and sustainable animal feed.
Feeding the growing world population
The use of the soldier fly as a feed insect can thus make an important contribution in the future to feeding the growing world population in a resource-saving way. Compared to other feedstuffs, insects
are the only source of protein for which the raw material can be utilised one hundred percent. Moreover, no waste is produced during the manufacture of animal proteins. On the contrary: during
their growth, the larvae feed exclusively on organic waste. The soldier fly Hermetia illucens is also characterised by extremely rapid development, with larvae fattening in about seven days.
Proven technologies of WEDA
“In addition, the end products are free of antibiotics and genetically modified organisms,” argues WEDA product manager Jens Feldhaus in favour of expanding the breeding method. In the insect
feeding systems of HiProMine, the proven technologies of WEDA Dammann & Westerkamp are used for this purpose.
Inexpensive, nutrient-rich and ecological protein source
Insect-based feeds are currently already approved for domestic animals, poultry, pigs and aquaculture. If the technology becomes established worldwide, insects have the potential to become an
inexpensive, nutrient-rich and ecological protein source for all animal feed. Prof. Dr. hab. Damian Jozefiak, one of the founders of HiProMine and professor at the Poznań University of Life Sciences,
is very satisfied with the prospects and the cooperation so far: “With WEDA, we have found exactly the right technology partner who offers us the production security we need for the sustainable development
of this business field,” he sums up.Company Profile
For more than 80 years, the name of WEDA has been a byword for innovation and reliability. Founded as an enterprise for the manufacturing of wood gas generators, WEDA Dammann & Westerkamp
GmbH with 150 members of staff at the Lutten head office, have meanwhile become a global market leader in the domain of liquid feeding.
In its function as a full-range provider for modern pig management apart from feeding technology and animal house equipment, WEDA also operates in the segments of ventilation technology and
liquid manure treatment. With its wide dealer network, the company is represented in more than 50 countries.

3d neopac announces technology investmen...
The company has recently implemented several technology upgrades in production, and brings a variety of EcoDesign solutions for its signature SpringTube™ and Plastic Tubes.
Mumbai, India – 3D Neopac, a global provider of tube packaging for cosmetics and health care, and part of the Hoffmann Neopac Group in Switzerland, has further strengthened the capabilities set for its signature SpringTube™ packaging solutions. Fresh off becoming an officially registered brand in India, 3D Neopac has upgraded its on-site manufacturing technology with two additional flexo decoration stations, and will also introduce a new tube line for capacity extension.
The infrastructure investment further bolsters the company’s metallic, flexo and digital decoration capabilities. Notably, due to COVID protocols, the influx of ultra-modern equipment was deftly installed and validated by 3D Neopac’s internal personal, with virtual assistance from its machinery partners. The result is an even wider range of custom decoration, including pearl effects, ornate finishes and spot colors, plus a capacity extension with a new tube line of 50 MM tubes.
In terms of sustainability, this year, India’s Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change issued a new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) notification for plastic waste management that covers reuse, recycling and use of recycled plastic content, as well as end-of-life disposal by producers, importers and brand owners. For tubes, actionable items include reducing packaging weight (light-weighing), increasing recyclability (mono-material/PE), using recyclates, and replacing certain plastics with paper.
3D Neopac will market various eco-design adaptions of its tube portfolio. Examples include mono-material PE tubes and tubes with locally sourced post-consumer recycled (PCR) content. In fact, 3D Neopac’s laminating machine is capable of processing the PCR quality available in India.
Notably, 3D Neopac has reduced the wall thickness of its COEX and SpringTube™ series by up to 23% in the sleeve (up to 35% in coextruded versions), while maintaining its important barrier properties and esthetic aspects. Its varied decorative options offer almost unlimited design and customization possibilities, eliminating the need for labels through low-migration, eco-friendly direct printing on a mono-material structure.
Variable printing options allow products using SpringTube™ to be customized down to the unit level, and its flat extruded design yields extremely precise layer thickness. Building upon this, in the near-term 3D Neopac will introduce additional SpringTube™ components including a new lightweight, HDPE slim flip-top cap.
In addition, late last year 3D Neopac debuted SpringTube™ Kraft, a paper tube concept comprised of paper/plastic compound. Despite being a concept whose collection mechanism has not yet been cleared in many countries, the fiber-based packaging it espouses is considered an attractive option to replace plastics where appropriate.
Finally, at 3D Neopac plastic and barrier tubes and components are produced in-house – an advantage that significantly mitigates supply chain issues. Its plant’s expansive tubes solution capacity also provides reassurance to customers in a still-unpredictable post-pandemic market.

Turbofil introduces assembly & vial fill...
Capable of accommodating special-design vials, the module increases throughput for product development in a burgeoning drug delivery niche.
Mount Vernon, NY – TurboFil Packaging Machines LLC, an equipment specialist dedicated solely to the design and development of liquid filling and assembly machines, has introduced an assembly and vial filling machine for unidose liquid nasal devices, which are increasingly seen as an attractive alternative to injections for the self-administration or emergency administration of accurate drug dosages. Available in automatic or semi-automatic setups, the company’s UDS Rotary Vial Filling & Assembly Workstation increases both throughput and flexibility through its broad array of station separation and inspection options.
For automatic operation, a racetrack format with vibratory product feeding affords speeds up to 80-100 pieces per minute. For semi-automatic settings, the system utilizes an operator-loaded indexing star wheel with pucks, producing up to 30 pieces per minute. After using an air jet and vacuum system to clean each vial, the machine's initial inspection station checks for cracks. To perform this step, vials are raised and rotated, allowing for 360-degree high-resolution camera inspection.
Next, vials are filled via a precision valve-less ceramic piston filler, at a station incorporating a no container/no fill sensor. A stopper is then inserted using a pick-and-place module featuring a burping tube to allow air escape during placement. Next, nasal actuators are introduced either via a secondary starwheel (semi-automatic version) or in-line via pick and place (automatic). In either setup, the actuators are inspected to make sure cannulae are present and straight, then automatically placed around the vials, which are pressed into place with an automatic tamping device. Finally, the machine ejects finished unidose delivery systems into a collection bin. Options are available to further automate the starwheel system with automatic component placement.
The machine is both precise and flexible, and its dosing prowess has an accuracy tolerance of +/-0.5 percent on a fill volume of 100-125ml. Stopper position can be determined down to 0.3 millimeters, ensuring device specifications are met. Additional inspection options also are available, including a post-fill station that verifies fill volume, piston height and unwanted fluid between piston ribs. Other optional stations can check for vial rim cracks following stopper tamping, as well as canula presence and straightness prior to actuator placement.
To bolster sterility, the unit’s product contact parts are composed of ceramic, stainless and Teflon. It is controlled via a 7” touchscreen HMI with recipe control and the ability to turn on or off any station or inspection as required for the particular application.
“With intranasal administration devices among the fastest-growing forms of drug delivery, machine solutions that address all stages of their production are increasingly sought-after,” said Deborah Smook, VP of Marketing & Business Development for TurboFil Packaging Machines LLC. “The UDS Rotary Vial Filling & Assembly Workstation especially excels at providing flexible inspection options, offering customized quality control for both automatic and semi-automatic production environments.”

Airnov continues to expand presence in c...
• Airnov continues to invest strongly in the local Chinese market with state-of-the-art manufacturing sites in Changshu and Dongguan
• Airnov currently produces a range of sector-leading products, including HAT®-SNAP, HAT®-IN and desiccant packets
• China Association of Clinical Laboratory Practice Expo (CACLP) moved to June
Airnov Healthcare Packaging, a global leader in controlled atmosphere packaging, continues its strong support of the Chinese market after recent investments in expanding its production capabilities across a range of product lines.
As a global leader in shelf-life preservation solutions, Airnov’s products are designed to protect pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and diagnostic products from moisture and oxygen.
Airnov’s dedicated diagnostic portfolio includes HAT®-SNAP, HAT®-IN and desiccant packets.
HAT-SNAP is an active and ergonomic vial featuring a container with temper-evident desiccant stopper.
HAT-IN, meanwhile, is an active and ergonomic flip-top container featured with an advanced desiccant polymer (ADP) technology integrated into the vial itself, to provide a high moisture barrier, as well as excellent moisture adsorption to protect even the most sensitive test strips and nutraceutical products.
Airnov also produces a range of desiccant packets at its Chinese facilities, located in Changshu and Dongguan.
These include the Continu-Strip® packets and the rimless packets, available in a wide range of sizes. These packets are typically used in rapid tests, urinalysis strips, ELISA kits and a variety of in-vitro and clinical diagnostic devices.
“The Chinese market continues to be of crucial importance to Airnov,” commented Albert Zhao, General Manager of Airnov Asia Pacific. “It is a key reason why we have state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities operating in the cities of Changshu and Dongguan.”
Airnov remains committed to growing its presence in the Chinese market having recently invested in expanding capabilities at Changshu. The modernization of the site 150 kilometers northwest of Shanghai includes the installation of new production lines that enables the company to produce a wider range of products at greater volumes.
This includes HAT-SNAP, which is seeing heightening demand due to the growing Chinese market.
“No matter what product our customers seek, Airnov guarantees high quality, complete compliance certification of FDA, EU and NMPA, and a stable supply for customers both in China and around the world,” added Albert Zhao.
Airnov is due to participate to the 19th edition of China Association of Clinical Laboratory Practice Expo (CACLP). The event was scheduled for March 2022, but is now postponed and set to be held in Nanchang City on new dates of June 10-12.

Marchesini group reopens its company doo...
Pianoro (Bologna) – Marchesini Group is reopening the doors of its factories and once again investing in Italian trade fairs and major corporate events for customers, stakeholders and students. Despite the highly volatile international situation due to both the conflict in Ukraine and to challenges relating to energy and raw material supply, the Group hopes to return to face-to-face meetings following the difficult years of the pandemic.
From 26 to 30 April, partially coinciding with the Cosmopack trade fair in Bologna, the first Open House of the cosmetics division will be organised, showing guests the Beauty Division opened last year: 5,500 square meters where technologies and workers connected to the cosmetic packaging world have been concentrated. During the Open House, visitors will be shuttled between the BolognaFiere pavilions and the Pianoro plants, where they will be guided along themed routes and take part in gastronomic and recreational events, the best way to resume social interaction in the workplace.
Immediately after the end of the Open House, company logistics will be reorganised for another event named Open Door Pharma: in parallel with the Pharmintech fair in Milan (3-6 May), from 2 to 6 May, the gates of the Pianoro plants will remain open for guests from the pharmaceutical industry, who will be able to witness the launch of the new corporate sustainability project enhanced by the presence of machines that use paper rather than plastic or organic plastic instead of normal PVC in their packaging cycles.
The program will end with the Talent Open Days, scheduled from 9 to 13 May: five days dedicated to schools and universities, which will allow students from technical institutes in the area and from universities to witness the production stages in person and to talk to their peers undertaking internships and to specialists.
“After two years of teleconferencing, remote testing, and stalled international travel, we are finally starting to plan in-house physical events again. Among other events, one of the most important trade fairs in our industry, the German Achema, will take place in August this year. We have taken the opportunity to further invest in Italy” commented Marchesini Group board member Valentina Marchesini. “This is a terrible time for many people not far from us; we hope that our return to social interaction will be a good omen”.
The company’s renewed openings, which have always been appreciated by industry professionals, will also benefit from a confidence booster provided by the latest company figures, which show strong business growth: the 2021 consolidated turnover returned to growth, approaching a threshold of 500 million euros (490 million, + 9.1% compared to 2020), 76% of which was generated by exports.
This performance can be partly attributed to strong demand for packaging lines for Covid vaccines. In 2021 alone, these sales accounted for 46 million euros of consolidated turnover, generated by orders that include individual lines and machines involving the entire vaccine packaging process, from filling in bottles to packaging in pallets.
The cosmetic packaging machine segment, which in recent years has joined the core pharmaceutical segment, also achieved impressive results.
Its growing share of consolidated turnover – 44 million euros (+8.9% compared to 2020) – is the successful outcome of targeted investments in the sector: the latest was the creation of the company’s Beauty Division, which reorganised and extended the production of the MG Beauty, Axomatic, V2 engineering, Cosmatic and Dumek brands. Despite the decline in interest during the pandemic for products such as lipsticks and creams, the growth in cosmetic sales has confirmed the public’s enormous interest in beauty products, no longer limited to women.“The figures tell us that in these two years, despite the difficulties, we have been resilient and shrewd. We had to change our priorities but this allowed us, for example, to understand that we can assemble a production line in six to eight months instead of the standard twelve” stressed CEO Pietro Cassani. “When everything becomes more stable, some things will remain, such as certain remote testing, while others will become a new norm such as the application of flexible hours for entry to work at our locations. The pandemic accelerated existing market dynamics, which will change again – enormously – as a result of the conflict in Ukraine. Continuing to be resilient is the only possible solution for all of us”.

Amcor innovation honored with three flex...
Problem-solving, industry-changing packages garner top awards from the Flexible Packaging Association (FPA)
Neenah, Wis. – Amcor – a leader in global consumer packaging – is the proud recipient of three 2022 Flexible Packaging Achievement Awards, winning across multiple categories out of a record number of entries. The awards recognize Amcor for solving complex customer challenges, advancing sustainability and elevating the overall contribution of flexible packaging.
The awards were presented during the FPA Flexible Packaging Achievement Awards Ceremony and Welcome Dinner on March 23 in Bonita Springs, Fla.
Amcor Flexibles North America Research and Development Vice President Brian Carvill accepted the awards for the company.
Amcor received a Gold Award for extending the use of flexible packaging with the AmPrima™ Recycle Ready Pouch for the Tyson® Instant Pot family meal kit; a Silver Award for Technical Innovation with the Clear Anti-Grease jerky pouch; and a Silver Award for Sustainability with AmPrima™ Recyclable PE shrink film with 30% post-consumer recycled content.
“We are honored to once again be recognized for innovative achievement by the FPA,” said Carvill. “These winning packages demonstrate how Amcor applies deep material science capabilities to create exciting opportunities for brands, and a better experience for consumers. This year’s awards reflect the resiliency of our research and development teams.”
The winning entries spanned a range of packaging applications and categories:
Amcor’s AmPrima™ Recycle Ready Pouch for Tyson® Instant Pot Meal Kits received a Gold Achievement Award for ‘Expanding the use of Flexible Packaging.’
The pouch replaces a three-part tray, lidding and overwrap system with a single, convenient high-barrier carrier eligible for consumer recycling at store drop off locations or curbside where available. The new pouch leans into consumers’ increased demand for recyclable packaging and achieves Tyson’s goal of incorporating more sustainable materials in their brand packaging, providing an 80% reduction in overall carbon footprint and a 75% reduction in packaging weight. It is also produced using 84% less water and eliminates chloride-based PVC materials.
The Clear Anti-Grease Jerky Pouch received a Silver Award for ‘Technical Innovation.’
This unique, high-barrier pouch material is extremely effective in preventing grease buildup and scratches on clear meat snack packaging, a long-standing problem for hard, high-fat products like jerky.
Improved optics help Amcor customers create brand advantage among meat snacks – a category with record growth.
Proprietary anti-grease agents are included in the barrier film’s sealant layer to repel fats and resist abrasion, which provides a clear view of the product and a premium brand image while being efficient to produce and delivering consistent, reliable, anti-grease properties across the entire package.
AmPrima™ Recyclable PE Shrink Film with 30% PCR received a Silver Award for Sustainability.
A recyclable shrink film with renewable content, AmPrima™ PE shrink film with 30% post-consumer content offers the billion-dollar beverage industry a more sustainable alternative to corrugate and traditional shrink wrap.
AmPrima™ Recyclable PE film reduces upstream product waste and resource use. It also lowers greenhouse gas emissions by up to 10% and uses 24% less energy in the distribution channel over the conventional 100% virgin solution. It supports production efficiency by not compromising line speeds or machinability; qualifies when clean and dry for store drop-off and can be reclaimed in curbside recycling in certain U.S. communities.
The FPA Achievement Awards have been showcasing industry innovations that have changed the packaging industry since 1956. This year’s nominees included a record 325 entries across 100 package samples (some packages were entered in multiple categories), which resulted in twenty-seven packages being honored.
