Every year, an estimated 350 million tennis balls are sold worldwide, mostly in pressurized plastic containers that are designed to preserve their bounce. As soon as a container is opened, tennis balls start to lose their pressure. Tennis balls have short lives, compared to their refillable cousins in football, basketball and soccer.

Tamil Nadu may sell liquor in tetra packs soon: Minister S Muthusamy

In a potential move that could revolutionize the liquor industry, Tamil Nadu is considering the sale of alcoholic beverages in convenient tetra packs, aiming to enhance accessibility and minimize environmental impact.

Following the recent closure of 500 liquor shops in Tamil Nadu, the state’s Minister for Prohibition and Excise, S Muthusamy, said on Sunday that the government was exploring the possibility of introducing liquor sales in tetra packs.

Elopak, Luoro launch first mouthwash packaged in D-PAK cartons

German oral hygiene brand Paperdent has partnered with Elopak to launch its range of vegan, alcohol-free mouthwash in cartons made from sustainably sourced paperboard.

Paperdent is the first mouthwash brand to package its product in Elopak’s D-PAK™ cartons, reducing the plastic content of its packaging by over 80% compared to conventional packaging for mouthwash.

Tetra Pak and MILKLAB partner on single-serve packaging

The ‘single serve’ 250 mL Tetra Prisma Aseptic carton has been launched for the packaging of the product.

The MILKLAB Oat and MILKLAB Almond range are dairy-milk alternatives that have been designed to complement coffee with a packaging size now suitable for home baristas.

Gerard Smith, MILKLAB Chief Marketing Officer, said, “Our new MILKLAB minis are the perfect size for the home barista that maximise freshness and minimise waste.”

FSSAI Allows Labeling of Curd Packets With Regional Names

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has notified provisions for the omission of the term curd from the Standards of Fermented Milk Products to vide notification dated 11 Jan 2023.

Recently, FSSAI has issued a press release on 30th March 2023 and allowed the use of regional names on curd packets amid the political controversy in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Uber Eats trials reusable takeaway packaging in Central London

The food delivery platform launched the trial on Tuesday (18 April), in partnership with Camberwell-based reusable packaging scale-up Again.

Again is building the supply chain infrastructure for reusable packaging, launching advanced packaging cleaning facilities it calls ‘CleanCells’ to efficiently sort, clean and redistribute packaging back to brands for reuse. It is doing so with grant funding from the £1.4m ‘Bring it Back’ initiative, managed by environmental charity Hubbub with funding raised from Starbucks’ levy on single-use cups.
