ReCover Packaging offers technology with film ‘welded to tray’

Suitable for use with vacuum-formed trays as well as pre-formed trays, ReCover is available with a high barrier option and can be used with ready meals.

Ken Adams, founder, said ReCover is ‘the thinnest reclosable material available’ and can be applied at high speed.

Easy-peel films often have a narrow processing window with the end result of requiring consumers to use a knife or scissors – for this product the film is welded to the tray.

It also eliminates the need for cling film or sandwich bags which cannot be easily recycled.

Colgate’s 9 billion toothpaste tubes defy effort to recycle them

Colgate-Palmolive Co. spent years devising a recyclable toothpaste tube. Pulling it off was a technical masterstroke, substituting plastic for a mix of materials that was historically tough to reclaim. The result, one executive said, was “nice squeezability."

One big problem remains: Many sorting centers around the US don’t accept them.

750,000 tonnes of plastic packaging goes uncaptured, RECOUP says

RECOUP published the results of a survey of local authorities on household plastic packaging collection yesterday (8 December).

The survey found that more than 200,000 tonnes of plastic bottles, 250,000 tonnes of plastic pots, tubs and trays, and more than 300,000 tonnes of plastic films and flexibles were not collected.

RECOUP says this shows there is “huge potential” for increasing capture rates with the “correct legislative drivers”.

Amcor Drives Progress on Advanced Recycling Materials

Amcor has signed a five-year deal with ExxonMobil to purchase certified-circular polyethylene material in support of its target to achieve 30% recycled material across its portfolio by 2030. The volume of material will increase incrementally each year, and is expected to reach 100,000 metric tons annually at the end of the five-year period.

The new tall, rounded, seamless package is designed to create tangible differentiation in the market for the new benefit-led Minute Maid range – Honey Infused and Vita Punch variants.
