Over the last twelve years, Big Marble Farms has grown from 5 to 55 acres. "And we have lots more expansion planned for the coming years," the team reveals. Big Marble Farms also markets greenhouse products from roughly 25 Albertan growers spanning nearly 200 acres. The name was born out of the founders’ desire to weave sustainability into the operations. Packaging provided a major opportunity for this.

HOUSE OF POPS LAUNCHES LIMITED EDITION FESTIVE PACKAGING

House of Pops, everyone’s favourite healthy treat on a stick, is marking this festive season with a special delivery box from Santa – created by Dubai-based designer Mika.

Mika also turned his hand to a matching greeting card to accompany the special gift box.

CEO Mazen Kanaan says: “We met Mika via Instagram, where he tagged us in a post of a painting he made using House of Pops sticks – and we loved it! So, we reached out to him for a special seasonal packaging collab, and we hope our loyal customers love his take on Christmas as much as we do.”

Christmas recycling competition launched for York school children

With the council now able to collect aluminium foil at the kerbside, the initiative aims to raise awareness of the importance of recycling – especially at Christmas, when packaging volumes increase.

Challenging children to create a festive A4 poster design incorporating used (but washed) aluminium foil, eager entrants can sign up to participate through their school. The winning design will take home a £50 cash prize, while their school will receive £500 in vouchers to spend on sustainable supplies and activities.

Encirc and Diageo announce hydrogen powered furnace to change the face of UK glass manufacturing industry

  • Hydrogen powered furnace will create the world’s first net zero glass bottles at scale
  • The new ultra-low carbon hybrid glass furnace in Elton, Cheshire, to begin glass production in 2027
  • By 2030, the aim is for the furnace to produce up to 200 million net zero bottles of Smirnoff, Captain Morgan, Gordon’s and Tanqueray per year

Encirc, a Vidrala company, plans to build a new furnace at its Elton plant, Cheshire, which will change the face of glass. The furnace will:

Scottish eco-packaging pioneer named country's top entrepreneur

A Scottish sustainable packaging pioneer has clinched the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2022 awards' UK Transformational Leader title.

Glasgow-based David MacDonald, owner of Cullen Eco-Friendly Packaging, won the national award at the ceremony in Manchester.

A panel of entrepreneurial peers judged him the best of more than 30 semi-finalists and 19 finalists.

Engel forms used machinery business

Engel Used Machinery is headquartered in Prague, Czech Republic, in what Leopold Praher (pictured), the business’ general manager, calls the largest and fastest growing market (Eastern Europe) for pre-owned injection moulding machines.

Praher has been with Engel for more than 30 years, most recently as sales manager Elast/LIM with responsibility for the company’s global elastomer and thermoset business. He will initially continue in that role also, until a successor is appointed.

The new packaging contains up to 70% less plastic than Chrysal's blue containers and now also comes in a 10L size. Not only is the new packaging ecologically friendly, it is also more user-friendly. The new 10L size Bag-in-Box is easy to separate and easy to dispose of; just press the plastic can together and put the carton in the paper bin.

AR Packaging launches Ecoflex® mono-material for thermoformed applications

Designed primarily as a thermoforming base web, Ecoflex® is formulated with premium PE polymers, offering good puncture resistance, improved tear resistance and it can be used for MAP (modified atmosphere packaging) or vacuum. Offering excellent clarity and printability, the material is perfect for meat, dairy and bakery thermoformed applications and has good recyclability throughout Europe.
