New die-cutting & folder-gluer machinery expand both capacity
and capabilities amid increased specialty packaging demands.
Camden, NJ – Rondo-Pak, LLC, a leading provider of quality folding cartons and printed components for the pharmaceutical, medical device and consumer industries, has continued to expand capacity at its primary facilities in Camden, New Jersey and San Juan, Puerto Rico, through infrastructure investment. The most recent additions address heightened market demand for specialty packaging, such as cartons incorporating child resistance, tamper evidence, crash lock or auto bottoms, and inner partitions.
The newly incorporated equipment is highlighted by a Koenig & Bauer Iberica Optima 106 Die-Cutter. Capable of producing 8,000 sheets per hour and offering continuous operation capabilities, the machine can die-cut several types of substrates, serving to complement Rondo-Pak’s existing die-cutting capabilities set and equipment portfolio.
Additionally, Rondo-Pak has added a Bobst Expertfold 110 Folder-Gluer to its existing lineup of folding and gluing equipment at the Rondo-Pak facilities. The Expertfold offers key quality inspection options such as in-line ejection, glue detection and barcode scanning, among other advanced features that increase efficiency and quality.
Both machines have the capacity to store specifications for set-up, reducing make-ready times for job runs. Along with other state-of-the-art features, these operator-friendly elements help diminish downtime and increase output capacity while promoting continuous improvement by a stored memory feature that accrues successful production parameters for recent runs.
“We are continually striving to increase our capacity, efficiency and quality to meet and exceed the demands of our growing customer base,” said Bob Reilley, President & COO of Rondo-Pak. “These purchases are critical towards achieving those objectives and supporting our continued growth and are important steps in our ongoing investment plans.”
Rondo-Pak, LLC is a joint venture with Körber Pharma, with locations in Camden, New Jersey; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Allschwil, Switzerland; and Ejpovice, Czech Republic. Both the San Juan and Camden facilities are Tier-1 Diverse supplier locations as part of the nationally certified SBA HUBZone program, allowing customers to apply Tier-1 spend from either location.

Primary packaging for solid and liquid drugs, as well as many other products, will benefit from the latest addition to the THERMOLAST® M series. But KRAIBURG TPE is also keeping abreast with the times organizationally: the service package that comes with the product ensures customers are always perfectly prepared for future rules and regulations.
Patients and medical professionals usually remember the outer packaging of drugs, due to the variety of the design options. It’s often easier and less costly to adjust the outer packaging than to adjust the primary packaging. However, the primary packaging is critical for the patient, as it protects the drug against unwanted environmental influences, alteration and contamination. The new compounds from KRAIBURG TPE have been specifically developed for these uses – for solid and liquid drugs, as well as sprays. Applications that benefit from this new series of materials include seals and gaskets, valves and flexible joints.
The compounds in this new segment of the THERMOLAST® M series have been specially developed for applications that require basic medical approval and have to meet food regulations. In addition, extraction tests in accordance with ISO 8871-1 have been successfully performed; all of the raw materials tested are certified under Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011 and US CFR 21 (FDA) standards. The biocompatibility of the materials series is certified in accordance with ISO 10993-4, -5, -10 and -11, as well as with ISO 8871-1 for parenterals and for devices for pharmaceutical use. The materials also meet the requirements of USP661.1 (plastic materials of construction) as well as of USP661.2 (plastics packaging systems for pharmaceutical use).
Overview of important additional materials properties:
The translucent TPEs can be colored
Excellent mechanical properties
Low compression set
Sterilizable: Autoclave 121 °C and 134 °C, β/γ radiation 2×35 kGy, EtO
Free of PVC, silicone and latex
Free of animal ingredients
Another important criterion: Customers will benefit from the unique service package for medical-grade products, which provides advantages in view of the Medical Device Regulation that will be coming into effect from early summer 2021.
Consistent production procedure; meets all requirements for a full-fledged medical-grade plastic in accordance with the VDI 2017 technical rule
Guaranteed 24-month supply security
Purity of the raw materials through commitment by suppliers
Separate, permanently assigned production units for THERMOLAST® M
“With many years of experience and the approvals we hold, we are in a good position to compete in the pharmaceutical packaging market. But the human aspect also plays an import part, as customers can rely on our unique medical service package, with consistent materials supply as well as consistent quality and ingredients,” emphasizes Eugen Andert, Product Development Engineer at KRAIBURG TPE.
The product is now available and can be ordered from your familiar contact partner or distributor.

Fairfield, Conn.: On October 27, 2020, the Institute of Packaging Professionals named Product Ventures and Gorilla Glue the winners of the AmeriStar Best of Show Award for the Gorilla Super Glue Micro Precise structural design. The Best of Show Award honors a package that surpasses all judging criteria and receives top ratings in every category of judging.
Through category audits, consumer research, and iterative prototyping, Product Ventures’ industrial design team delivered an easy-to-use, precise, and controlled dispensing tool that fits comfortably in the hand.
“I’m so proud and humbled that our team was recognized with the AmeriStar Best of Show award. This could not be achieved without the dedication of our incredible interdisciplinary team. Thank you to Gorilla Glue for sharing this opportunity with us to work together on such an impactful design,” says Peter Clarke, CEO at Product Ventures.
The Gorilla Super Glue Micro Precise contains a metal cyanoacrylate tube of glue inside a black plastic shroud and orange winged buttons. Product Ventures discovered during consumer studies that users tended to grip the glue dispenser closer to the nozzle. This discovery inspired Product Ventures to broaden the grip at the top of the glue packaging and taper the shape at the base. This new shape made the grip more comfortable for consumers. In the final engineering stages Product Ventures designed the black shroud pieces so the same shroud part could be used on either front or back of the package and would require only one mold. This modification saved on molding costs and simplified the assembly process.
The design strived to convey the toughness of the Gorilla Glue brand and product by using a broad-shouldered silhouette. The tapered cut away exposing the orange buttons, and the angled rib details on the buttons also reflect the toughness of the Gorilla Glue brand.
The AmeriStar Awards is one of the packaging industry’s oldest and most prestigious design award programs. A roster of 15 judges from various segments of the packaging industry evaluated this year’s entries virtually, examining package innovation, product protection, economics, performance, marketing, and environmental impact.

Cologne, November 2020 – In 2018, vacuum specialist Leybold designed the 100 % dry screw pump VARODRY for demanding industrial applications. This compact all-rounder is easy to install and, thanks to its compact design, easy to integrate into systems. Now Leybold has extended its VARODRY platform by the robust "Heavy Duty" and Oxygen VD HD/O2 version.
A stainless steel exhaust and integrated purge module
These features predestine the VD HD/O2 versions particularly well for rough coating, drying and regeneration applications. In these areas, where extra robustness is required and the exhaust gases are usually discharged via piping. The VD HD/O2, which is available in pumping speed sizes 65, 100, 160 and 200 m³/h has been specially equipped with a stainless steel exhaust and a built-in purge module.
VARODRY is completely oil-free
In comparison to competitive screw vacuum pumps, VARODRY is completely oil-free, which is a special feature. In a VARODRY, there is no oil migration feasible from the gear chamber into the vacuum chamber or into products or processes. This prevents potential reactions of the lubricant with process media as well as back diffusion towards the process chamber.
VARODRY HD/O2 tolerates 100 percent oxygen
Based on this completely oil-free operation and the additional precautions taken to ensure hydrocarbon-free surfaces, the HD/O2 version can tolerate 100 percent oxygen. This suitability has also been proven by intensive and sustained testing by a notified body.
Reliable, affordable, uncomplicated for O2 or other Heavy Duty applications
The bottom line is that the VARODRY from Leybold scores with reliable performance and low operating costs over the entire service life. Last but not least also the renouncement of complex (PFPE) oil changes makes the new VARODRY HD/O2 version the ideal pump for industrial vacuum processes – even when using 100 percent oxygen or other demanding applications. The bottom line is that handling this vacuum pump is uncomplicated for its users and offers many advantages.
